Fuel pump lubricant/additive question 200 1993

Do any of you periodically/sporadically put any gasoline additive to lubricate the fuel pump? Or is the detergent/additives in the petrol we buy sufficient for this purpose?

For those of you who do put a bottle in your tank, which one do you recommend?

Fuel pump lubricant/additive question 200 1993

In reading the over the posts I have to agree with Trichard on this one.

I have tried very few different so called cleaners, lubricants and so forth and I really have not seen of felt any changes in the way a Volvo engines runs.
I think it's more of a mind thing that you have put something in there.

I tried the Techron detergent from an impulse buying moment at Costco. I got nothing out of it but the left over bottles to use as a funnels, when I cut the bottom off. I use "it" now to put oil into RV or another portable generator.

I read the bottle and it plainly states that it's a stoddard solvent. I looked it up. It's "Like" kerosene, naphtha or paint thinners. A few bucks a "gallon," at "Yourtail" prices, not at a wholesalers price.

There is nothing great in that. Might be a cleaner or refined than diesel fuel.
So, it has to be some proprietary detergent they have, which is really a vague thing to pin down. Except when applied it to strategies of increased marketing sales! The whole Techron or "V" power thing.
Now for those others it's "Top Teir" gasoline being touted? That's detergents again with one pennies to a gallon. Might as well go with that and get a "fresh fuel" turn over from "busy" gas stations!

Stale fuel is the enemy as in like four or more months old. Stay away from Mom & Pop side of the road grocery stores unless your desperate for fuel. Then only buy enough to get you to a better station. (:-) Top Tier anyone? (:/)

I can say, I have tried octane boosters in my Harley's engines. I felt some smoothness but then again, I'm right on top of those engines vibrations. 104 octane was some nice stuff in its days!

The boosters gave a little more pep as in the get up and go! But then again, Just washing an old Harley improves it, mentally! (:)

She'll out the bucks, if you want mental performance!
Like a K&N filter..... It straightens the air flow! Say what.... Prove that one going down the road.

Like turning the air cleaner lid upside down on those V8's. Looked cool or it was just different.
You didn't argue with the man about "air flow" when he wore a "Duck Tailed" haircut either!

In those days Mental Styling or marketing leaked onto everything.
Not much different today! Your sinfully guilty, NASCAR and sponsors.

$(:-) Not all, but mostly, $nake oil!

IMHO
Phil

BTW, the techron bottles from Costco are the less concentrated version. Not the full strength concentrate. They are more for "maintenance".

If your injectors are clean you probably do not need an injector cleaner.

No need to lubricate the fuel pump.

An occasional bottle of Techron is good to clean up the fuel injectors.

you're wasting your money 200 1993

Fuel pump lubricant/additive question 200 1993

Hi Mr. Zorak,

As I have learned from this forum, I try not to go below the half tank most of the time especially when it's either below 32 or above 90 degree outside. I have used selected few gas stations and try to use the same gas pump. So... I go to gas station everyday. Last winter was brutal but I did it. :) If my car runs bad, thinking it was bad gas, then I put a bottle of seafoam.

Good luck.
