Cleaning out Oil Cooler on 95’ 940T? 900 1995

Wondering if anyone has experienced excess pressure, or blockage of oil passages in the oil cooler of the 940T? Specifically the coolant oil cooler mounted to the block, oil filter screws onto the cooler.

Car has 190K miles. I have owned it about 40K miles (3.5 years) and always use Mann filters with Pennzoil full synthetic. Car has always used some oil between changes, but is currently using a lot! Appears to be leaking at the filter, though could also be dripping down from the distributor.

Last week I replaced the oil separator box & all hoses so it's not a crankcase pressure problem.

I'm wondering if the filter seat area on the cooler is damaged - though that wouldn't explain why it hasn't always leaked this much.

As far as I know, there are no passages in that can cooler. You could have a leaking o-ring seal (there are seals at the cooler: extension joint and extension: block). Or you could have a rust hole in the cooler, something that is not unknown but usually results in loss of coolant. Are you sure the leak is not from the rear engine seal?

I took a closer look tonight, I'll probably change the oil filter paying special attention to make sure the surface is cleaned off. Also read somewhere about possibility of the old o-ring from the last filter being stuck on the cooler. I hope I would have noticed but perhaps not.

The rear main seal I think is ok. I took the 2 plastic grate pieces off the bell housing (?) yesterday & thoroughly cleaned them - lots of oil build up & I wanted to make sure it wasn't coming from the RMS. Anyway those were still clean tonight (my son drives it about 75 mi/day). But there were the usual drips on the oil cooler hoses.

So I'll swap out the oil filter to check it again, then order all the o-rings for the cooler/extender pieces if needed.
