1993 245 Overhaul - Distributor question 200

Hi! My first post here. I'm in the process of overhauling my 1993 240 Wagon. I'll post questions as they arise. For some reason, when I do a search here, I get no results on my iPhone and iPad. Any info on that is appreciated too.

So, question 1:
The distributor clip snapped. Is there anyway to replace/repair just the clip, would you use a zip tie? If not, is there any reason I shouldn't buy a used distributor for $40-$50 vs a new one for $130?

Thank you!

Good question.

Even if the search did work here, I doubt you'd get too many hits on this relevant to the distributor in a 93.

As you probably already noticed, there's nothing to this dizzy. Just distributes the spark -- so the bushing, shaft, and end play considerations giving risk to buying used distributors when they generated timing signals are less important. I would definitely find a used one. Make sure the clips move freely or oil them until they do :-)

As for the zip tie idea, I'm frowning on that, thinking the nylon side-of-the-road alternatives to bailing wire could never achieve the clamping force of that spring steel that broke. And when it loosened, you'd now be at the side of the road again needing (probably) the dizzy, cap, rotor, and wires.
