240 wagon lights - URO Parts 1372442 RH and 1372441 LH 200

Just wanted to share, as I didnt find any similar comments on the forums.

I have now fitted two sets of lights to the rear of my 240 wagon.

Namely URO Parts 1372442 RH and 1372441 LH

Failure of the light assembly was the spigot bolt molded into the back of the light to hold it on the vehicle - after being installed for about a week to three weeks the plasic around the molded in bolt cracks (both of them - top and bottom on each light) and the light falls out off the body of the car.

Light assemblies were tourqued to the point that the light assembley sealed against the body of the car and the plasic spigot was held firmly against the bracket that holds the assembly to the car (as per the OEM removed assemblies appeard to be - No instulation instructions are provided with the assemblies)

Admittedly the rear of the car is parked in a southerly direction and gets full summer sunlight heat.

As the supplier of the URO parts is not applicable, I have not included it in this summary.... however, they have so far (under guarentee) replaced both light assemblies.

Interested if any other drivers have had this issue?

I have replaced both rear lights about 9 months ago and have not experienced any of these problems.

However I'm now curious and will check to see if these studs have cracked in any way shape or form.

"Interested if any other drivers have had this issue?"

I have!

Well, nothing to point to URO and not even with a wagon. Valeo sedan lamps.

After the second fix, it dawned on me the body had been straightened some time in the PO's stewardship. Just not straightened quite well enough to fit the molded tail light assembly. Pulling it up enough to compress the gasket put it under stress once the temperature extremes were felt by the materials. The plastic surrounding the stud cracked.

Hi pip_pill,

Actually, we have several articles threads topically treating Volvo 240 tail lights, for sedans and wagon, in the current active monthly brickboard.com RWD forum index.

The search feature on the brickboard.com may or may not come up with results you may need. Many will use Google, as Bing still sucks, to target the www.brickboard.com IP domain as part of their search string query using Google search. Though Google is also dumbing down search results.

So, in the active index, pleas scroll along the two pages in the RWD category. The issue of Volvo 240 lighting remains a lively topic here on your brickboard.com. For example (copy and the URL/URN, and paste into a new browser window):

The URO/APA tallights are one of two after market Volvo 240 tail lights. I'm unsure, yet the URO brand taillights are not the made in Estonia taillights (do they still use butyl tape as the lens to reflector body adhesive sealant, or was that URO? I forget again.).

You should be able to find useful information.

Else, return the taillights to FCP Groton. You have 30-days after purchase, in a mail order thing, like a web purchase, to return these lights to FCP for a refund.

I get used tail lights from the junkyard, and fix 'em up. These are usually replacement OEM Volvo tail lights, in need of repair, and such.

Hope that helps.
