Front Strut Spring Mount Failure - Repaired: 200 1983

But repaired expensively. Here's my original post:

https://www.brickboard.com/RWD/volvo/1613972/220/240/260/280/front_strut_spring_mount_failure.html

I bought replacement spring bases/seats from FCP (just $10 each) along with some other parts like new upper strut mounts, and also got new Sachs/Boge "TurboGas" strut inserts, ball joints and tie rod ends from IPD. About $400 of parts, and then a back problem (Google "lumbar radiculopathy") laid me up and the Dr. forbade any stressful bending, lifting, etc. for many months to come. So - car and parts off to a small indie shop. Many hours and $$ later it's in good shape and ready for the summer.

The original 32-yr-old spring bases were corroded paper thin and the right side had bent down to the point it was touching the tire. The strut tubes don't look great either, but the shop said there was enough meat there to weld the new seats in.

I've had the car since 83 so it's kinda like your old dog that you just keep taking to the vet cause you don't want to be without it. Sure hope the money pit has been sealed up - at least for a while.

Again - thanks to all who responded to my original post back in April.

Some years ago, I injured my back from lifting wrong. I couldn't even bend forward and touch my knees without great pain.

The solution for me was spinal decompression. Basically, I hung from a chin-up bar and did leg raises and twists. My core came back stronger than before. Now if I feel "compressed" from too much carrying, I do a quick hang with leg raises and twists.
