Bosch 55 amp alternator swap into 1965 122 120-130

The B20 I rebuilt some years ago has been running with the stock 30 amp generator and regulator. Since the B20 block also has the threaded boss for the alternator, I've been looking to install one.

I had a new external voltage regulator (1308 030), Bosch # 192062005 and sourced a used but working 55 amp alternator and tensioning brace, as well as the correct 3 terminal plug from regulator to alt.

Here's my question.

In the harness to the regulator, on this body, there are 3 wires only two of which were being used:

heavy gauge black - this connected to reg and now will go directly to alt.

light gauge red - from wiring diagram, this goes back to the "generator light" in the dash

light gauge black wire with female spade connector that was unused and left tucked back in the sheath

What would this lighter gauge black wire have been used for, or where does the other end emerge and to what is it connected?

thanks

Thanks for the advice. I did find the plug from a guy in Fresno that seems to have a business selling connectors. http://www.repairconnector.com/bosch-voltage-regulator-alternator-repair-connector-3-female-wire-terminals/

I ended up not using the plug and just wired it in with insulated female spade connectors. All good!

Bosch 55 amp alternator swap into 1965 122 - need to source plug 120-130

I'm having trouble locating the plastic plug the connects to the external regulator for a Bosch 55 amp alternator setup. The shop I am dealing with thought they could source a new one with the three leads, but NLA. If anybody out there (more likely 1800 folks) has one of these, I'd greatly appreciate it. I can email a picture if that would help. I may have something you need.

I guess that the next best option would be an internal regulator option that is integral with the brush holder on the rear of the alternator, though I don't know the correct part number or where to source. A part number would help. Eric? Ron?

I'm not interested in the Delco option, thanks anyway.

thanks

Though the plug is the slickest approach, if you can't find one, you can connect the individual wires (with female spade terminals) to the charging regulator. The plug itself isn't really necessary.

I mention this just so that you don't delay getting the car on the road.

Good luck!

I have a couple and *almost* used one when rewiring the 444, but decided against it. I don't really NEED the thing, and because the regulator is inside the cabin, it's easier to pull the wires through the firewall without the terminal plug thing. Hope I don't have to pull the wires through at all, but... ya never know...

Bosch 55 amp alternator swap into 1965 122 - need to source plug 120-130

I'm doing this work at my buddy's shop in Berkeley. He's got the nice connectors and crimping tool the grabs the insulation and the wire separately + heat shrink. If you can spare one, that'd be great. I have the wagon to get around in while the black one is being worked on, so not in a terrible rush. I know I can do it without the plug, but, if I can get one, I will. maybe send me your email - all I can seem to find is your home address.
