door seals 120-130 1967

I'm installing new door seals on our '67 220 and to say that it laborious would be a drastic understatement. This car has the later style channel spot welded to the door frame. The manual says to use a screw driver... Poking the inner lip of the new gasket into the channel 1/8" at a time seems to be the most effective way to do it.

Anyone got any tips, tricks, tools, strategies, etc. that make this job easier ?

Second question - there is a gap in the channel at the botton of the door. Should the ends of the gasket meet there ?

Third question - should the new gasket be glued to the hinges ?

Many thanks

Greg

    Mostly it's just tedious.

My advice is to make sure that the channel is clean and clear of any debris. Using an old tooth brush is useful for clearing the channel. Mine wasn't rusted so that made it easier.

A brake adjusting tool or something with an offset and a wider tip, say 1", helps prise the other edge into the channel. Once you have both sides in the channel, you can slide it back and forth a bit to make sure it's in place.

    Spray silicone is your friend.

I offset the ends from the break in the channel on the bottom of the door a couple of inches, so that would mean starting and finishing at the bottom.

I didn't use and adhesive passing over the hinges where there is no channel.

Maybe try playing some soothing music.
