PS and Tranny In-Line Filter Size 900

Hi Folks,

Planning on putting a Wixx or Magnefine filter into the return lines of both the power steering and tranny fluid lines...

Are these lines 3?8" or 5/16"?

Thanks,
Bert

Hi,

Choose the 3/8 inch size.

For the transmission its easy as both cooler lines are of same sizes. I had put one Magnefine filter on the return line, i.e. the topmost line from the radiator. Had to sacrifice cutting that precious OE cooler line by the way.

For power steering there are two hose sizes to the reservoir. One small and one big. The small one (i.e the lower return line at the reservoir) is about 3/8 inch inner diameter. You can choose this line. The flow of this line is TOWARDS the reservoir.

I haven't put one in the power steering circuit as my Saginaw type pump has its own small metal mesh filter INSIDE the pump (but it has no magnet). So I had put in a small magnet inside the reservoir instead, using plastic cable tie to stick it to the short plastic dipstick of the reservoir cap.

Regards,
Amarin.

For anyone following along - 3/8" on the 200 series as well. It's a simple cut/clamp into the low pressure return line.

The biggest gain, however, simply comes from changing the PS fluid as you would other fluids in the car. Once every couple of years is probably sufficient - clean your newly installed filter then as well. And since the volume is so small, and power steering fluid is cheap, just turkey-baster-out the reservoir, refill, and drive around the block and repeat 2 or 3 times. Not perfect, but WAY, WAY better than the treatment almost all PS systems get - which is the fluid NEVER gets changed unless/until either the pump or rack fails and has to be replaced.

Thanks guys!

Am doing maintenance to get my 945 up to Stage 0, with flushing PS and tranny on the list. Figured I'd put in filters while I'm at it.

Bert
