wagon gas cap chain install 120-130

I have finally procured a code gas cap for the wagon. This one is new supposedly and comes with the beaded chain. Can someone with experience in this area explain how this beaded chain is connected to the filler neck. The chain in the picture I received looks to be around 6"-7" long.

thanks

There is a tab located on the bottom inside of the filler neck a few inches down.
It is supposed to be shaped like an inverted "U" or "V" into which one of the chain links is trapped.

Unfortunately, most have been crushed flat by fuel nozzles.
You might be able to pry it up and re-shape it to achieve a fastening device.

The chain is still attached on mine and I'm sorting out a Waso locking cap for it. Looks as if to unhook it you have to take the pipe out of the car so I'd guess you'll have to do the same. The Wagon, rather rare, Waso locking cap is visually the same as one from a 144/5 but the round lock plate needs to be swapped for a much larger one, 50mm diameter. I've found one on another non logo Waso penta shaped cap (Amazon saloon type) but don't know what car that was original spec'd for. Would be good to know as It might make them easier to find.
The 144/5 type can be found with Volvo and Vauxhall Griffon logos, maybe others too, or just with the Waso "Hand" logo. Found one of the latter this weekend.

I found this locking one that supposedly will fit, but to me it looks like the piece that would fit inside the filler neck, and lock, is too large.

I believe you can just pry up the tab without removing the filler neck.
I envision something like a long thin screwdriver would do it.
