Car Transport Company recommendation needed 700

Will need to have daughters 1989 740T transported from Philadeplhia to Los Angeles next month. Does anyone have a recommendation for what would be the most economical way or what company to use/not use?

Thank you!
JJ

I looked into this awhile back when thinking of buying an older Volvo on the west coast and shipping to east coast. It was cost prohibitive overall, but I found that there are folks who will drive your car across country for very reasonable rates, typically just gas/maintenance - college kids returning home for summer, or retirees looking to travel on the cheap. Google "car driving opportunity across country" or something similar.

There are quite a few ads at the link above, good luck

The car transport companies you speak with are brokers and represent various car carrier services (the fleet and truck owners / operators). Indeed, take to heart what oldduke and the other unnamed respondent reply to your initial post.

The carrier service you actually encounter is a separate business. The wholesale vendor, if you will.

Few auto transport services do anything by rail unless you reside between Washington DC and NYC. Something that FedEx does with freight rail and car carrier rail cars.

You will want to research a car transport or carrier service.

I've spoken with, has all the insurance, yet have yet to use:
    Ultimate Auto Shipping
    http://ultimateautoshipping.com/
    Pat Lynch-President
    www.ultimateautoshipping.com
    www.transportreviews.com
    www.bbb.org
(The transportreviews.com and bbb.org are in the email signature from Pat, the owner.)

I've spoken with, has all the insurance, shipped my 1990 Volvo 240 DL wagon from STL to Portland, OR in April 2006.
Able Auto Transport (a broker MC195242)
    http://www.ableautotransport.com/

To ship two Volvo 240s from, say, St. Louis, MO to Portland, OR is about 1500-1700 or so now.

    Questions?

    Hope that helps.

    Duffed.

    oldduke has some good info.
When I was looking for cross country, no one was under 1k. Many were 13-1400.
An east coast car may be rusty; a CA car will not be. Sell it and get another here, there are some good ones out here. Look on CL, or on Turbobricks there's a thread, Today's Volvo Orphan.

hi juk- did this a few years ago .transported a vehicle from conn. to se fla. this industry has more than a few shysters , fakers and incompetents. cost $600. range of comparison shop was as high as $1200. found one by word of mouth recommendations and the hemmings mag. make sure transporter is insured against physical damage to the vehicle and they inspect vehicle before the job goes. get a current copy of hemmings mag and start phoning companies listed. good luck oldduke
