Behavior of B cam 200 1992

Do those of you who have swapped in a B cam experience a slight reduction in idle smoothness? Is a manifold vacuum of < 15 in. with noticeable valve jitter expected and normal?

Thank you all. Smoothness is subjective, and I may not have noticed any roughness without the benefit of my unmodified car idling alongside. For now I will be happy to blame the more objective vacuum gauge behavior on the overlap I am told the B cam has more of.

Also Dan Marino found a loose mounting on the power steering pump. The jiggling pump made the idle look even worse than it was, I think.

You know you are getting old when everything either dries up or leaks.

question to you Art regarding your tweeking of Dan's vehicle.

I speculated that the problem with it throwing off codes, which I identified as LambdaSond Loop failure

just for my info...not having yet owned a 240 with a LH 2.4 sytem.

Was there a problem with the Loop, was it in the AMM or was the O2 Sensor at fault

What was the final on the Codes.

In my opinion the source of the problem was the air mass meter.

The car did not throw any codes after swapping in a good air mass meter.

Art didn't think the junkyard oxygen sensor was quite as responsive as he expected to see with his voltage readings, so we put my original 37,000 mile oxygen sensor back in.

Behavior of B cam 200 1992

Hi Art,

My B cam idle is not smooth. haha.

Thanks again for all your help Art. Car is running great with no codes. My son is removing the cut front springs on Saturday and I'll be putting the IPD rear cargo springs back into the rear.

Behavior of B cam 200 1992

The biggest difference I noticed after swapping in a B cam ('92 245 wagon) was the reduced pull when starting from a stand still. But once you're up over 1700 rpm or so you start to feel the power come on. I don't mind at all though, particularly as I have a manual trans. I'm glad I made the change, it makes the car much more enjoyable to drive. I only noticed minimal reduction in idle smoothness, and it seems to disappear once the car reaches normal temp.

That's what I get with an A-cam in my 1989 running LH2.4, and there's not supposed to be a big difference between the A and B (both for carb motors).

I love that cam, it really makes the 240 a lot more fun to drive.
