Update 200 1992

Here is an update.
I removed the intake manifold and swapped in a different engine coolant sensor. Put a new intake manifold gasket on and got it all back together.

The car did not want to idle for a few minutes.
Then I took the car for a 35 minute drive on the highway.
No check engine light yet.

For fun I tested the resistance of the old engine coolant sensor and it seemed to work fine. I have a feeling the sensor is good.

looks well cared for. Seems like you've replaced just about everything.
Why are you selling it again?

Too bad you "lowered" it, last year.
Hauling a rack of kayaks, bikes, people and running shuttles on WV backroads, not so good for me.

Well it just threw a check engine light again. Guessing it is still running too rich. I'm running out of patience trying to fix that particular issue.

Regarding the springs...right now it has stock springs that are cut on the front and IPD sport springs on the rear. Whoever buys the car will get a set of IPD rear cargo springs, plus the front IPD sport springs. I also have a front passenger's side fender, spare AMM, spare Virgo, that go along with the sale. So the ride height can be easily brought back to normal.

I have a feeling that I'm throwing a new fuel pressure regulator on it tonight.

            Hello Tom,

I've been following your saga, and I have one thing to say "DON'T DO IT".

I also have been chasing some simular gremlins that I haven't resolved yet. I hope this isn't to little to late but FCP Groton has me on their maintenance bulletin email list. And awhile back they sent out a bulletin about a guy changing the breather box, and solving a long standing braking issue caused by reduced vacuum. I've heard of other accounts of cracked boxes, and boxes that don't function properly even though you can blow through them. Also the O-ring is often found rock hard and cracked. I have not found the time tackle this project yet, but it's in my future.

Please tell me how many coils you cut off of the front, that also is in my future.

Don't give up, I would hate to see a nice car fall into the wrong hands. And I also would hate to loose a long time Brick Board contributor. A perfect idle could be just around the corner.

Do you think you're giving up on the 240 series for ever? If not, It's better to deal with the devil you do know than the devil you don't know.

              Hi Tom,

I hope Dan gets this fixed before he sells it as well.

It looks like the springs were chopped in 2014 followed shortly after by inner tie rod ends, and then a rack in 2015.

This may be a coincidence, although it's the same result I had on a 244 I acquired with short springs, and so don't be surprised if these things are also in your future.

I don't think the rack on these cars was designed to have it's tie rods pointing up in the air.

              Peter

                Hi there,

I think have a very well point made there on the rack tie rod ends.

Yep, you lower the body the tires and everything else attached goes upwards!
I can envision your point that their not going to reach if you bottom the car out going through street drain dips, and lovely potholes.

It's all about geometry angles when it come to steering, handling and tire wear! Looks plays second fiddle in my book.
Today's cars are built with reasons, well above, the low riding soap box derby cars of childhood.
One is speed, oh and braking?

There is no way you can get by with one ratio change that won't change another.
Most things are built around a system of compromises.

What works well in one instance never seems to work for all the others!

Just look at the nature of humans beings, you cannot make everyone happy.

That's a good question Phil. I don't know or think so. That's a California thing, right?

I am sorry, I should have looked at the classified pictures you have out there before asking!

You don't have one and yes its probably a California only thing!

I know that a piece of foam rubber, smaller than the tip of your pinky finger, plays the off an on thing inside vacuum controller of the EGR.
It trips that emissions light real regular after it get really, really bad. Until that happens, I buy that car! I got to fix it to pass state emissions.
I was fooled by someone who knew to pull the wire on the fender, from the battery, between test drives!

If the PO knew the above, I got their records on bucks, they would have strung the mechanic up by his nads! That's from the mast of the sail boat they bought him!

I am just afraid for you, that's it's something so small that you will give up a nice utility car.
Someone would have to threaten to OR EVEN beat with an ugly stick before I would give up my wagon!
Of course, I am already ugly, so that wouldn't work even IF THEY wore out both ends!

I have one car with an EGR on my California cars.
I see yours has ABS, I am glad I don't have that!
For something you might use 5% of the time I don't need their headaches.
Can't tell you many times I have been in a parts store and overhear calls about wheel sensors.
I don't live in a parts store, so what are the odds!

If it's running fine despite that light, well, I hate to say it....black tape over the light can work wonders!

Refresh me on what dumb code it is given you now.

There is other poster that brought up a good point about brake booster vacuum. A wiggling hose or cracked check valve.
That small little detail could throw a Rich or Lean code.
Random as using your brakes. It goes around the AMM. Perfect gremlin.
Makes me think about cabin control vacuums as well.

I like your wagon but your on the wrong coast (:-(
I could Fix up those couple spots of rust, that I can see and get another thousand for it out here with your parts!
You have spent a fortune on oil.
Wish I had that slightly used stuff nowadays.
Wagons are getting more collectable every year.

                Phil
