Will a 940 Turbo run with just the in tank pump? 900

Hello all,

I have a 1994 Volvo Turbo wagon with 203k miles. I have been battling a no start and generally poor running condition for a long time. I think I have it narrowed down to the main pump but I have a series of questions.
1st. Will the car run with just the in tank pump, no main pump?
2nd When the main pump is running I should hear and feel it run correct?
3rd. If the car will run with just the in tank, would performance and throttle response be hit or miss, like work some times and not others? Should I replace them both?

Thanks
Chuck Jaxel
down to 1 Volvo and I'd like to fix it :)

The in-o the tank pump will get you home, but it doesn't give enough pressure to the fuel injectors for the engine to run properly.

No and yes. If your 940 actually has 2 pumps?

Yes it has an in tank pre pump I think and then the main one under the car, I can hear and feel the rear one running, I removed the inspection plate that covers the in tank one, and I can feel the vibrations and hear that one running, but I feel nothing from the main one underneath? And I don't hear that one running.

Check for 12 volts at the main pump. You might try hitting the pump with a piece of wood and see if it starts running.

Also apply 12 volt directly to the pump and see if it works.
