Ohhhhhh, an 1987 240, on the Eastern Seaboard will require a host of work.
Mileage? Images?
Manual or auto transmission?
What is "240 462 6872" in your post?
More than likely much wear item replacement and overcoming prior owner neglect and the abuse the Atlantic Northeast and Eastern Seaboard throws at automobiles.
You'll have rust, also, to deal with. Yet you may get lucky.
Unless it has records and is as well maintain as an Art Benstein Volvo 240, and then that owner would NOT EVER sell them.
Unless this is one of General Colin Powell's former Volvos, and you get that and hold on to it tightly! (Unless mehcnical restoration to mechnical reliability is more than you care to deal with and more $$$ than you want to spend.
While not wholly related, from the mighty 700-900 FAQ, hosted right here on the best Volvo related site in all perpetuity:

Not all applies to you and 240/260, yet it is still helpful for you.
Others shall chime in with more helpful responses than what I have here.
Hope that helps.
Thanks,
Friday.
