Contitech timing belt for 940 900 1991

I need a new timing belt and tensioner for my 940 B230FB. It requires a square-tooth belt. I've seen two types of Contitech belt: CT825 and CT643K1. Some sources indicate either is suitable while others say only the CT825 belt is correct. Can anyone advise please?

Hi blue940,

One wonder, in searching for results helpful to you, these companies, like Continental (ContiTech), do they separate part number schema by market (UK or Commonwealth versus North America) or nation? I ask as I get primarily Ireland, Commonwealth (UK, Australia), & elsewhere in Europe in these results.

Do you have standard shift in your 940?

CT643K1 - According to these sites, fits all incarnations of the Volvo red block single overhead overhead cam, with sqaure tooth, as a 1976 244 saloon with B21 used square teeth in them timing belts.

An ebay auction shows this as a ContiTech kit with the tensioner. The image suggest a square tooth timing belt. The auction also shows the Contitech box.

I'll guess the images are generic, however. It may not be a kit that includes the tensioner.

Shows the same.

CT825 - may be the square-toothed belt, and is not a kit. No tensioner.

Look here at iPd entries.

Thanks Dud

I should have mentioned I'm in Australia but I was looking at an Irish site originally but I saw the same numbers on Amazon too. This led me to think they were universal part numbers of the manufacturer.
My 940 is a 1991 with auto trans, b230F, LH2.4.

blue940,

Very nice!

I forgot to mention that I'd read, yet not experienced, that the Contitech t-belt kit for 240 uses the good brand of t-belt tension pulley. I think made by Ina?

I do like the 940, but I'd prefer the live axle, as on the 240. I guess the IRS does not matter if you take care of it save for the pricey rear Nivomat rear dampeners. (I'd convert to regular dampeners.)

I like how the 940, and the newest I'd seen is a 1995. The final year for 940 in North America.

The final year of 940 production is 1998.

How new are the 940s in Australia? What is the newest year you encounter. Hopefully, 1998.

Other than maybe the first three years, all 940s in North America are automatic. Some have converted their 940 to manual transmission using the entire drive line from a 70-series with the somewhat frail M47, drive shaft, clutch, flywheel, and such.

I'd imagined, or rather, had hoped if the Turbo 940 was for sale to the final 940 year of 1998, a beefier standard shift would be available.

Thank you,

Mac Duffy's Tavern.

My 940 sedan is a live axle. In Australia only the 88- 760 and the 960 got the IRS.

The newest 940 here is 1996. In that year there was only one model: light pressure turbo wagon. It was badged 940S. I wish we had gotten the 1998 models, they look very nice.

All 940s in Australia are automatic (officially at least). I know of a handful of private imports from Europe/UK and some of them are manuals.

Cheers

940's have the same rear axle as a 240. -- Dave
