main headlight relay location 93 240?? 200 1993

93 240 Classic Wagon
Trying to find the main headlight relay as Dave Barton calls it;

"""2. Main Headlight Relay, This relay exists in the 1986-93 240 only, Volvo PN 1324749 (or 1235013) (click here to find it), or Bosch PN 0332015001, 0332015006, 0332015011, 0332015012, 0332015016. This relay is a mystery to many 240 owners, because it's tucked away out of sight under the dash. In the '86-'87 240, it should be found behind the clutch or brake pedal area (see relay diagrams above). For the '88 or '89 to '93 240 (exact year of this change is not certain to me), it should be behind the center dash area, just below the accessory gauge locations (or radio if yours is up high). This relay fails far less often than the above step relay.
FAILURE SYMPTOMS: Headlights might turn off on their own after a short time (and your fuses are good). Headlights may come back on after switching them off, then on again. Or you might need to wait a while and try again (after they "cool off"). Or headlights may not come on at all when the switch is turned, but your high beams will flash normally when the flasher stalk is pulled back."""

I have a good portion of the dash out and have found many hidden relays including one that by search only shows a thread entry where someone tried to find it but that Tasca showed it as no longer available. Other than that, it seems to be a common topic on Russian Volvo forums (which btw is Volvo 3 545 619).
That is beside the point. WHERE the H is the mani headlight relay that he talks of??

It is on the rail with the central locking relays just behind the center vents. Identify it by the burned crispy white socket with the large yellow wire.

Although you can see it once you loosen the front of the center panel and fold it back, it took me 10 or 20 minutes to get my fat thumb and index finger aligned correctly to get enough grip to yank it free of its clip, and another 15 min. or so to splice in a new spade connector. The relay is never the culprit, just the socket.

What engineers say and what they mean by it:
"Essentially complete."
Half done.

Hey Art, I hope all is well. So my brights will not come on. The step relay is switching when I test it. I have the dash mostly apart and I cannot seem to find the main headlight relay. It is a 1990 240. There are the three black relays clipped on the rail but nothing else. Any ideas on where it could b or a tip on tracing it down? I appreciate your help.

It is approximately under your left foot. The main headlight relay did not get moved behind the center vents until 1991.

THANK YOU! THANK YOU! I have been trying to track this problem down on my spare car for a month going nuts. I quickly located it and found the female socket with the Grn/red wire going to it pretty dramatically melted. I am going to have a friend remake this for me as it is something he shines at and I do not want to do this again. I will advise tomorrow. THANK YOU ART!!!
