Regina Fuel Pump Alternative 900

Is it true that a Volvo 850 Bosch pump could work in a Regina fuel system? Has anyone tried it?

Regina Fuel Pump Alternative 900

Dear tedv,

Hope you're well. Based on the fuel pumps used in a 1995 850 as an example, a fuel pump (Part #9142957) will cost about $330 at a Volvo dealer. That amount ($330) is about double the cost of a Rex-Regina fuel pump (Part #3507736).

The factory-supplied Rex-Regina fuel pumps seem to last about for 150K miles.

Unless the 850 Bosch pump would last twice as long, there's no reason to try to use a Bosch pump in a car with a Rex-Regina fuel/engine management system.

Further, the 850 fuel pump mounting is very different from that used in the 700 and 900 series cars. The 850 fuel pump is housed inside a barrel-shaped send unit. The Rex-Regina pump sits next to the fuel pump send unit.

There is not a lot of "wiggle" room, when it comes to seating the Rex-Regina pump in the fuel tank. I doubt that an 850 pump unit could be made to fit.

Hope this helps.

Yours faithfully,

Spook

Yes, Thank you Spook, it does help! I heard through the "internets" of the possible 850 pump transplant into the Regina--I had my doubts, and glad to have your confirmation.
