Took the 122 to pick up dinner about a mile away on Friday. Strong gas smell when I returned home and parked. Underhood inspection turned up a fissure in the rubber fuel hose about two inches before entering the carbs. Could have been really bad news if it happened on a longer trip.

I replaced those lines sometime last summer with stuff sourced from a national chain store. Hoping to order something of a higher quality to avoid it happening again. Anyone know the proper ID fuel hose off the top of their head?

Just to add this, the lined clamps are better, but here in Connecticut I had to order them although I got them the next day.

You might also consider the flexible hose that has an inner liner meant for fuel injection applications. More expensive and not sure if it comes 3/16".

A guy, in England, on FBooks Volvo Amazon Group was looking for the machined front cover that takes the improved seal. After much searching he was able to get it from Eric.

Re the timing cover. They are available exchange from Brookhouse Volvo spares in the UK. Always best to start with your closest "usual suspect" IMO.

If it was Gates fuel hose, I am not surprised as I was seeing ruptures in the outer casings in fuel hose I had replaced in less than a year over 5 years ago.

So I switched to Goodyear brand fuel hose and problem solved.

If you are using bulk hose, the fuel hose from the hard line from the fuel tank to the inlet of the fuel pump requires 1/4" hose.

The fuel hose from the outlet of the fuel pump to the carburetors is 3/16". And so is the small piece between the 2 carburetor float bowls covers.

IIRC, originally hose clamps were not used, but I install them on the long pieces of 3/16" hose using "lined" hose clamps that don't damage the outer casing when tightened. So 4 hose clamps are needed if you are using an inline fuel filter like I do.

I don't put hose clamps on the small piece between the 2 float bowl covers because I have NEVER seen that piece fall off when using the proper length of 3/16" fuel hose and because it is sandwiched tightly between the 2 covers.
