What do you use to replace 52mm gauge rubber feet? 200

Hi all,

I just picked up another 240 project (a black over tan slick top '92 wagon--such a nice color combo!). I seem to have used up my stash of those little rubber feet that hold the 52mm accessory gauges in nice and tight. Has anyone come up with an ideal replacement? Cardborad wrapped in electrical tape? A trimmed down packing peanut? A little bit of a kitchen sponge?

I searched around but couldn't find anything about it, either here or on the google. The going rate for a set of three on ebay is $10--I'd rather rig something up for free. Thoughts? Success stories?

Thanks!

I cut and old used wiper blade. It already has a built in groove.

I have cut garden hose washers to replace the "rubber feet", so far so good.

I bought some from a Volvo dealer a few years back. I don't remember the price but it wasn't much. I may even have a spare set.

Those ideas of those peanuts or styrofoam shaped is also plausible. Maybe even some black closed cell foam tape that's used around lids and doors.

I have never gone looking for those as my cars all have them.
They are easy to over look or lose in your case.
I agree $10 is high when a new gauge with the wiring kit is what $40-50.

Something squishy in there will prevent any rattle or buzz like noise.

Have you ever tried to make one by molding some RTV silicone?

If you have one from the clock or tachometer you can use it.

I imagine coating it a spray of cooking spray, vegetable oil or a grease.

Using a match box size batch of body filler and push it into three places or more.

Let it set up and then fill that with black silicone flush to the top.
It will have to set for a time until solid being its thick and all.

Any color or clear would work. Black seems to be choice for a professional finished look that only a person working on the car might appreciate.

I gather you would like that as well.

I wrapped a few winds of black electrical tape around the body of the gauge to make it fit and stay in place. Doesn't need to be very snug, just enough to bind and stop it from rotating.

has worked fine in my 240 for several years now.

Looks like you need to experiment and tell us what you did....

Well yeah. I mean, heck, a wad of chewing gum would work just fine. I was just hoping one of the wise denizens here had already come up with something slightly more elegant than I might do, if left to my own lazy devices.
