These Volvo suspension bushed that have rubber partly around the bush on the inside part number 1330427 panhard rod bush. When you install these do you place them so the rubber goes in the direction of the suspension travel. The reason i asked my mechanic replaced them 10,000 km ago and they were shot.I noticed he had them placed them with the air gap facing the suspension travel. Lucky for me the replacement ones i got had rubber all the way around.

Haven't seen the part you describe (my panhard rod bushings arealso fully circular) but my gut reaction is that the air gaps should be oriented vertically since the forces exerted on the panhard rod are greater side-to-side. This would allow the rubber to absorb the applied forces. This is NOT according to any spec or manual but only 45 years of observation and automotive experience.
