Bumper Shock Mount Location / Dimension 140-160 1974

The previous owner of my 1974 164E must have backed over a bollard and then got hung up on it or something.

There is no damage to the outside of the bumper but the fuel tank I replaced had a dent in the bottom and the right side of the bumper was pulled out about six inches or so past normal.

The sacrificial welds on the sleeve were broken and I removed the bumper and tapped the sleeve forward to where the welds seemed to be located until I could have it re-welded.

A Volvo mechanic commented that my bumper was too far in. He did not provide any further information.

The rear segment moves by hand and I can hear it clunk when I go over bumps.

Could someone tell me how far the inner sleeve extends past the outer sleeve mount at the welds?

Thanks!

Does the availability of part number 1213698 imply that the shocks can be rebuilt when they start to have some play in them? Rather then welding them to stop movement of the sleeve? I can't find an image of the part but in the parts catalog it looks like just the absorbing device inside the shock.

Those tack welds shouldn't be there- it's a bumper shock. Somebody tacked it (in the wrong spot, which is why it's pushed too far in) in order to keep it from moving in and out freely, which they all do over time due to age or previous hits.

      Rubber Bumper ;) 140-160 1974

      Thanks.
I guess it's a spring / summer question. Too cold to go crawling around under a car if it's not necessary.
The rubber spacers on mine need to be replaced as you can see in the photograph. Is that part available? I could not find anyone carrying it.
Anyone make their own? Or find a substitute?
      Thanks.

        Rubber Bumper ;) 140-160 1974

I saw a 240 at the yard that had its bumper removed. That rubber spacer and metal spacer were sitting there so I took them. The guy at the checkout didn't charge me for them.
I think they are identical but I haven' put them on yet. I haven't determined if the shock is a fit either. I can not imagine the shocks are still good on mine so that would be good to know.
