how about a top 10 list 200

hi sages- been reading here over the last few years that some replacement parts for the 240 should be strictly oe from volvo, particularly if the diy repair is hellacious like the blower motor.some jobs you only want to do once every 20years,like getting drafted. all seem to agree that that job is a full 5F job.so the blower motor should only be a oe even though volvo will soak you a mortgage for it. certainly though many replacement parts do not need to be volvo oe. could you fine sages give me your top picks for volvo oe only. the hard to replace crank position sensor seems to be another. also told the gemo clutch cable from volvo is another. thanks tons oldduke

I always buy Volvo brake pads...

    1. Aftermarket brakes always seem to be a crapshoot (squeak, squeak)
    2. The Volvo pads come with good quality shims.
    3. They are so darn cheap that it seems silly to go elsewhere.

Volvo OEM PN 1272455. Made by Boge of Germany (A ZF company).

Unless you take that Volvo to the track, and have steel plate strut mounts, than go with the Volvo OEM PN 1272455.

      No other shall do.

      cheers,

      Cheese and Crackers.

hi 4dv- hadnt thought of replacing them yet. guessingthe symptom that they have gone to hell would be clunking on a turn, thudding on a bump or uneven tire wear. did that job once on a plymouth which was close to a 4 F job. surmise you replaced them with aftermarket bushings and they quickly went stinko. thanks for the tipoff. oldduke

Actually, the OEM Volvo heater blower motor is an Electrolux vacuum cleaner motor. Electrolux being another Swedish company.

Aftermarket kit from FCP Groton and I think iPd is the Siemens motor kit to replace the 240 HVAC factory installed motor when the drill n' squirt works no more!

hi testpoint- you really have to be kiddingm on that one. had a 66 electrolux canister vac. worked well. motor never crapped but had to take it apart once to resolder a connecting wire. noticed the motor was wired directly so it must have been a 110 v ac house current motor. wouldnt the volvo motor have to be a 12 volt dc motor? by the way what should i expect volvo to clip me for that motor? $100? thanks tons oldduke

There Are Universal Motors That Can Operate On Both AC Or DC 200

I don't know if this is the case with the 240 blower motor, but some motors are "universal" and will operate on either AC or DC.

From Wikipedia: "The universal motor is very similar to a DC series motor in construction, but is modified slightly to allow the motor to operate properly on AC power. This type of electric motor can operate well on AC because the current in both the field coils and the armature (and the resultant magnetic fields) will alternate (reverse polarity) synchronously with the supply. Hence the resulting mechanical force will occur in a consistent direction of rotation, independent of the direction of applied voltage, but determined by the commutator and polarity of the field coils."

So it is possible the 240 motor is compatible with that of a vacuum cleaner.

        Hey,another source of parts!

1985 245 "Daisy" (back seat down, full of tools, the work truck)
1985 245 "Earl (CA vehicle 'retirement' program)

Can you tell I prefer the 1985 model 240? Better headlights than
the plastic 1986+ and nicer belt adjustments than the 1984s and earlier!
