Hello 444-544

Hello, my name is Erik.

I live in Alaska and I am new to BrickBoard.

My father had a 544 back in the '60s that he used to race, and use for daily transportation.

We have built several other vehicles (race cars, street rods, and a "sleeper" or two).

I have posted in the V8 section, as I already have a Rover V8, and a small case 700R4.

I'm interested in dimensions of the engine bay, as I would rather keep as much of that sheetmetal (inner fenders, mid & upper firewall, core support bulkhead and of course the hood) intact as I am able.

The floors in the 544 candidates I'm considering are shot, so the trans tunnel and lower firewall aren't as big a concern to "save" as I will likely have to replace part or all of them anyway.

I'm not looking to build a barn burner, just something that's quick, will handle and is vintage in appearance.

I think a Volvo similar in appearance to what dad used to race would be ideal. :)

    Hello 444-544

    Hi Erik,
Welcome to the 444 and 544 forum. There are many helpful folks here.

I have two pictures of my engine bay that has the dimensions.

If you would provide an email address I can send them to you. Mine is not a racer but has a 2.5L S10 engine with a Toyota Supra 5-speed to a Ford Ranger rear end. I am in the process of rebuilding a leaky steering box.

Best of luck in your build.

    Ray Johnson

      Hello 444-544

Ray, thank you for your generous offer, I have sent you my email address through the BrickBoard.

As I am new here I am uncertain if that will arrive through the board as a private message, or as email through your preferred host.

All I know is it looked like an email, with the address scrambled similar to what Craigslist does.

      Thank you again. :)

        Hello 444-544

I too have the same idea. I have a 58 444 that will maybe some day get the 63 olds 215 four barrel engine I have. D&D fabrications has a lot of modification parts for these engines. As for the floor pan a 140 floor pan with transmission tunnel is doable as this is whats in my 63 544 with a B20 engine and an AW 71 transmission. Larry

          Hello 444-544

That's very interesting Mr Larry. :)

I had not thought of swapping floor pan components, I expected to have to fabricate them.

I haven't seen a 140 that I can recall, is the trans tunnel larger?

          One can hope. :D

Thank you for the information. :)
