Number 7 fuse blows at startup 200

My son and I replaced the CIS fuel delivery system on his '81 245. When we try to start it the #7 fuse blows. We traced it back to the connector on the fuel pressure regulator. With the connector pulled the fuse does not blow. Since the cold start injector is still hooked up it will start for just a second then just turns over. I am assuming this is because the fuel is not getting to the cylinders. Not sure what would cause this.

Leave the CPR unplugged for now... 200

...and try starting with a new Fuse 7.

Unplugging the CPR should not affect starting. I think the only effect should be a delay in leaning out the mixture for warm running.

If it starts, the ambient heat from the running motor will do what the CPR resistor/heater does (lean out the mixture), but will take longer without the resistor/heater's help.

I think the OP fixed his harness to accommodate the grounded CPR heater yesterday -- just for those who are still contributing here...

If you lend someone $20 and never see that person again, it was probably worth it.

Agree 200

I'm with Chuck on that. To be sure, check the number on the regulator.

From my notes:

1981-82. Bosch p/n 0 438 140 079 - original

Bosch p/n 0 438 140 123 - replacement.

Either will work but if later (replacement) is used the two wires that connect to it should be switched one for the other in the connector.
