ID This Instrument Cluster 140-160

Can anyone ID this Instrument Cluster?

The seller thinks this might be from a 1974 164E...

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Volvo-160-series-instrument-cluster-BTB-from-1974-164E-speedo-in-KM-HR-/131295070484?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item1e91cbc914&vxp=mtr

The frame and gauge faces do not look like my 1974 164E but then again it is from a different market based on the speedometer in km/hr...

My faces have white edges around the red and green fields and green rectangular outlines on the frame face.

Mark on the back of the speedometer 8.79 makes me wonder if it is a 1979 240...or 260?

What do you guys think?

it's from a canadian-i guess- 79-80 260. 1258985 speedo is the clue. good luck, chuck.

      B20 and B30 (164) motors have a 6500 rpm redline -- B27/28 (260 V-6) motors a 6000 rpm redline - yellow starts at 5500 on the V6. Have the seller check the back of the tach--it will be embossed either 4zyl or 6zyl depending on 4 or 6 cylinder. The owners manual I checked for a '73 164 show a 200kph speedo. -- Dave

I don't believe any correctly labeled B30 tach would have a redline of 6500 RPM...

My (pre-'72) Smiths OEM dash mount 160 tach is red stipled at 5500 and redlined at 6.

I can't remember for sure, but I doubt later tachs for B30 (in-dash or RSport) were different.

I went back to the owners manual - printed 9/72 for the 1973 model 164 - which shows a dashboard tach with a 6000 rpm warning zone---6500 rpm redline. Of course I realize that picture may not be the be all and end all answer. Further reading showed speed in gears 1-3 @ 1000rpm as 5.5, 9.3 and 14.6. Reading further still -- max speed recommended for gears 1-3 as 35mph, 55mph and 85mph. These figures work out to just under 6400rpm for 1st, 5900rpm for 2nd, and 5800rpm for 3rd.
          BTW--the 6cyl. tach for a 260 shows a warning zone starting at 5500rpm--redline at 6,000.
I was incorrect stating the speedo in the manual as reading 200kph (must have been a 260 manual I also looked at) -- the 164 manual shows a 130mph speedo.
My wife, and then my son drove a '73 164 but I don't remember the redline on its tach--that was over 20 years ago. -- Dave

the speedo was my clue, not the tach. 1258985 is 200km for 79-80. i ASSUMED canadian because it's km and i ASSUMED 260 because of the decade. could be wrong. and so it goes, chuck.
