Spring Seats 140-160

The 1974 140 Green Book mentions different rear spring seat heights on left vs. right side of the vehicle.

A = Depth of upper half of seat:

Left A = 21 mm (0.8268")
Right A = 11 mm (0.4331")

Is this true for a 1974 164E also? 240?

The Hayne's book for the 164 doesn't mention anything about this.

Thanks

    Spring Seats 140-160

Purpose is to make up for the fact that it's normally just got a driver in it, so the driver's side normally carries a tad more weight. Driver's side spring should sit a little higher, not much. Which side is higher depends on the market (LHD vs RHD.)

      Thank you,

I was unsure if it was due to a difference in the left and right side of the chassis of the car

The ones I removed were the same height. The ones I replaced them with were both the same height also.

Maybe the previous owner swapped them.

The spring seats on my 1974 164E do not differ in height.

The right rear side of the was lower than the left. The difference was about the height if you put the seats on the wrong side hence my original post.

I changed the springs, seats and washer & nuts to a junkyard 200 series type yesterday until I can afford new.

    The car now sits "level".

Maybe the springs were just worn out.

I seem to remember the previous owner saying they would use the tow hitch and go on vacation.

The third time I smashed my shin on it I removed it.
