North Korean 140s

Forgive me if this has been previously discussed (I did do a rudimentary search), but how do you suppose that the "most closed society in the world" has managed to keep a fleet of Volvo 140 taxis in service for 40 years?

As a Linux enthusiast, I am somewhat familiar with North Korea's digital ways of reaching the outside world via a state sanctioned operating system called Red Star. Red Star knows no Google.

I have seen photos of the North Korean elite with MacBooks...

Speculations welcomed.

Probably the same way the folks in Havana kept all the pre-embargo yank tanks running...ingenuity, cannibalization and skilled machinists.

      Cool article.

"... Modern Volvo could use a little bit of the Old Volvo's rugged workhorse charm and personality, and these 1000 political prisoners are just the ticket."

      So true.

So very, very, very, very true.

Considering the Volvo owner home office is not so far away in the huge nation to the North or North Korea, you'd think this would be a invite to another branch in the Volvo ad campaign.

Sorry, Volvo Cars AB, do not escape you past. Both Nordics and Chinese together know what the heck tradition is. Old, auld, owld societies.

One would think the power of Assar Thorvald Nathanael Gabrielsson and Erik Gustaf Larson, the Volvo AB Group founders, would somehow eek out a egalitarian quality to that well-closed society called North Korea.

At least we also have South Korea.

Why can everyone get along and everyone own a 2016 model year Volvo 140?

      164?

      130 GT Amazon! Right on!

      Cheers and thanks,

      Buttermilk MacDuff.
