Electrical issues / How does the overdrive switch ground? 1800 1966

Greetings all!

I'm working on a '66 1800 that's in somewhat of a shambles electrically.

The Overdrive system was all screwed up electrically, so I'm installing the relay system out of a '81-'84 240 (which has the self cancelling relay.)

I built a system like this for the Overdrive on my 122 with out any issues a few years ago, and have duplicated the wiring harness needed and hooked it all up.

Here's the issue I'm running into now: The OD switch no longer grounds where it connects. I checked it with a meter, and sure enough, there is no continuity between the bracket that houses the switch and a known good ground (bare metal).

Any ideas? I haven't dug deep enough into an 1800 dash before to know what might cause this. How is the bracket supposed to ground? Might this grounding issue prevent the turn signal switch from working as well? The only changes I've made to the car have been disconnecting the old OD wiring.

Also, as an aside, why did the in-dash OD light have 2 wires coming off of it? 1 of those wires is obviously 12V+, but what does the other wire do?

    In dash OD light has two wires.

    One feeds the light and the second continues to the 4th gear switch on the tranmission, then to the OD solenoid.

    If you wire for the 84+ relay, that second wire is not needed.

    There is a ground wire that attaches to one of the turn signal switch mounting screws and there is supposed to be a ground strap across the steering column coupler.

      You were right on the money! That ground strap on the steering coupler had a butt connector on it that had disconnected.

      Turn signals turned out to be a funky fuse. All is well.
