    Thank You!!,

You're right it was the tomato can........... Now all we need is another one for our other 93 wagon :-P

It is 99% of the time the fuse or bulb-out relay. Make that 99.8% of the time.

There are a crap load of threads I found on this when it happened to me but in short..REMOVE the fuse for the brake lights...inspect it in detail and make sure the fuse clips are tight and corrosion free.

If you are 110% sure the fuse is good, remove the driver side felt toe kick, reach up above the knee brace and pull down the "tomato can". Unless you are a 1%'er, that is your culprit. Check the FAQ's on attempting the resolder or buy a new on.

Right. The switch is one of those parts which has been unchanged through several series of Volvo production because it works so well. Not so with the fuse, its contacts, or the bulb failure warning sensor. And it is so hard to reach compared to the more likely causes, it becomes a big sorry waste of time to go for it first in a guessing game.

Onkel probably stumbled on one of my many posts with this link inside, should the 0.2% chance be realized. 240 Volvo: Replacing the Brake Light Switch
