93 SW latch tailgate doesn't open 200 1993

Greetings,
I recently purchased a '93 Volvo 240 SW and the rear tailgate latch is broken and I'm curious if there is a way anyway to open the tailgate by doing it myself. I certainly would appreciate any direction the inoperable tailgate latch.
Thanks,
Freedom

there's a good chance that the Power Lock, triggered by a wire that runs under the hinges of the tailgate is broken.

you should be able to release it using the interior release. Not sure but it should be direct and override the lock....OUR CHILDREN ARE TRAPPED IN THE BACK...so yeh that should work.

beyond that remove that interior panel and see what's up.

Hi,

Not sure but you may be able to sit in the rear cargo area of your station wagon and by gently prying away the carpeted interior piece on the tailgate (it's held on by plastic clips around the perimeter edge). You'll probably only be able to pry the top of the carpet away.

You may then be able to gain enough access to shine a light down in the interior of the tailgate at the latch, spray it with PbBlaster and free it up that way or stick something down to free up what ever piece of the latch is stuck.

It's funny, in the past couple days I messed with our 92 245's tailgate that would not latch.

Hope that helps,

Travis

Unclear as to whether the handle doesn't work or the handle is broken off. If broken off, you could either use the handle inside the tailgate to open it for exploration and fixing. If the button simply doesn't work, you may be able to lock-unlock-lock-unlock multiple times to get the button to work. I have the latter issue on my '90 from time to time and three or four unlocks seems to solve it.
