Our 93 940 cruise control has been having intermittent issues. Sometimes it sets the speed and works, other times it doesn't. Seems to work for a while and then it doesn't for a while. I originally thought it was the brake switch so did the o-ring replacement as described in the FAQ. However, that hasn't fixed it and I have pulled the OBD code which indicate a speed sensor problem. I have not seen any issues with the speedometer. From what I have read, they use the same sensor so it seems like that must be ok. I've also run the diagnostics on all the cruise control switches and they all worked but given the intermittent nature, I could just have hit them at the right time.

So any thoughts on the missing speed signal? How is it fed to the cruise- does it come from the speedometer?

Thanks! That is exactly what I need. I was about to ask for help finding the thread. I spent about an hour searching for it and didn't turn it up. Not sure how I missed that one but obviously didn't search for it correctly.

That looks like a brilliant solution to my problem.

This was covered in a note about two months ago along with a repair: a jumper wire for the instrument panel flex board. Maybe someone can find the original thread.

In my 93 940, when the speedo quit working, the cruise died. I bought a used instrument cluster on eBay (well, 2 - the first one didn't work) and everything works fine.

Have you checked the cruise control vacuum diaphragm which connects to the throttle under the hood? Leaks there can cause odd cruise behavior. It looks like a black balloon with a cable running to the throttle body.
