Hi.
I'm told (but haven't confirmed directly) that ipd swaybars aren't on the market any longer.
If there's interest, I can have sets made by another company. I don't need any myself, so if nobody wants any, that's okay.
We're also going to produce lowering springs for the 444/544 models. If there's interest, we can have a bunch made. If not, we won't. I'm getting some.
Not sure about cost nor lead time yet. I'll post again once I know more - if there's interest. If not, no problem.
Thanks,
Cameron

I bought a set of the VP PV lowering springs that Eric mentioned being available. They're priced reasonably and arrived in an appropriate amount of time.
I had hoped that there would be more specific information on them but was unable to find out what their rates were, or an approximation of "X%" stiffer than stock. About all I could gather was that they're stiffer than the originals and should lower the car about an inch.
They are stiffer than the originals, and they did lower the car about an inch. The fronts seemed to lower the car to a lesser degree than the rears, so I cut a bit more than one coil from those. My guess is that it's lower than some people would want, which is exactly what I want.
The ride quality is really surprisingly good. Not at all harsh, just nice and firm. Handling is better than before, though the alignment hasn't yet been corrected. I think the improvement in handling is more the result of new springs versus original worn out springs and not particularly related to a lower CG.
The rest of the suspension is pretty average - rubber bushings in the rear, front and rear swaybars, new stock shocks. This stuff has about 10K of use, so I don't expect it's too worn just yet.

For anyone wondering, we have not at this time discontinued anti-sway bars for the 544.
We don't stock the sway bars for the 544 any longer, but they are certainly still available. We aren't planning on discontinuing them, at least at present.
We're expecting to have a few more sets to send out in mid August.
We actually have them on sale at the moment for a pretty good price, I think. (Also, we now offer free shipping on orders over $150 within the lower 48 states.)

The springs are another story, but the anti-sway bars are still available! You just need to order a bit ahead of time!

Dylan, or any other member who knows for sure, will the IPD sway bars work on a '59 445/duet w/a B16?
If so, will any holes need to be drilled? Finally, if it will work, how long will it take for delivery?
Thanks!

Hello Jim,
Yes, the front sway bar kit that IPD sells will fit your 445.

Hello Eric,
Thanks Eric. Do you stock them by any chance?

Hmmm. I have an order in to ipd for a sway bar set. Today they told me they thought they would get them by august. I wonder if that is wishfull thinking?

I have a friend that bought a 544 a year ago. He may be interested in the sway bars. I think he prefers to go with new stock springs with the sway bars.

Hi Cameron,
Interesting... had several discussions about this several years ago with an infamous Volvo fabricator in upstate NY. Thought better of it at the time.
Yes, I'm definitely interested, subject of course to cost and degree of lowering.
Please keep us informed.
Thank you much.

So hi-tech Cameron,! I thought we were supposed to just crawl under the car with a torch and heat the springs up until the owner says ' yeah ,just right!'
All kidding aside, nice to see someone trying to get production up for lost part options!

Hello,
It would be a shame if IPD stopped selling 544 sway bar kits, but I can understand if they aren't selling enough of them.
I have installed several of those sway bar kits on customer cars with excellent results.
FYI, VP is now selling stock and lowering springs made in the USA for the 444/544.
So far all I have sold and installed were the stock replacement 444/544 springs and they fit and had a good ride and ride height.

Turns out, it's still an active product - so that's good news. If you need bars, ipd's product is tops.
I've found front lowering springs on the VP site, but not rears... I haven't found rears anywhere. Any insight is appreciated. I want firmer springs.
Thanks,
Cameron

Hello Cameron,
I couldn't find the rear lower coils on their website either, but like my Volvo parts website, it is not complete. Although theirs is waaaaaaaaaaaaay better than mine.
I call VP at least once a week so I know them pretty well over there so I called them today.
You can find a complete lower coil kit at the following link:

Ah, cool - thanks for the link. I'll call them tomorrow - hope there isn't a long lead time on those. I'd like to get them on the car soon.
I don't think their site is very good at all. It's really cumbersome, not intuitive, and difficult to find some items - like the lowering kit you managed to come up with. I'm happy to do business with them, though, and have been very pleased with orders I've received. I do wish there was a way to at least estimate freight costs, and to tell what items are or are not in stock. A printed catalog would be GREAT. I'd be happy to buy one.
I'm also really glad VP is available for all of us. Good folks to work with.
Thanks again.

IIRC, no lead time as they should have them in stock.
FYI, I am an authorized VP reseller and I charge the same price as listed on their website for their parts.
I just get to make a little on the deal.
