Quick Breather Box Question 200 1991

My sons 1991/240 w/160k miles is giving the signs of a clogged breather box. Is it simpler needless to say it is hard to get to. Is it simpler to just pull the intake manifold to access the box? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Dale

Quick Breather Box Question 200 1991

If the starter were out of the way it might be easier. If working from down under with out a lift is any easier. The steering shaft hampers some of the access area that way too!

I have heard the there is a bolt on the starter that is a mother to break loose if its never been out.

They must have reserved that job on the assembly line for their arm wrestler Heidi, as they can still be loosened!

Quick Breather Box Question 200 1991

No need to pull the starter. Some pull the intake manifold, but I've done three of them without needing to do that. But I did take out just about everything else that was in the way. Intake hose, throttle body, idle air control, all the associated hoses, etc. Part of that effort was to clean and inspect those parts but it also gave be access to the BB. There is also a wire harness that has to be moved out of the way too. Make sure you have plenty of lighting to help you see what going on down there. I also replace the o-ring at the base of the BB.
In fact now I keep a BB cleaned and ready to go for the next 50 k service smorgasbord.
