AQ 130d boat motor 1971

Hi All
I have a AQ 130D Volvo penta boat and I was wondering if I gets parts{like rings and bearings} from a b20 engine, from the research I have done it should be the same thing right? It has B20 on the block and other numbers. What does anybody think or has somebody came across this problem or situation. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Donny

I've rebuilt a few of the Penta engines. Rings and bearings are all the same, just be sure you get the correct rod bearings if you have an eight bolt crankshaft.
Gasket sets are different because of the o-rings Penta liked to use.
Biggest thing is to rebuild the raw water pump and be sure that its seals are perfect. If it lets go raw water will enter the sump through the timing cover. If in doubt replace the pump ($).
Otherwise simple and easy.

Thanks for the info peetz, what do I need to worry about the rod bearings and I do have a 8 bolt crankshafe if you mean where the flywheel bolts on. Would the main gaskets still work like the oil pan and intake-exhaust gasket, I know for sure I am getting a head gasket from a marine dealer, I will for sure replace raw water pump and related gaskets. THanks Donny

Is the engine out of the boat? If there are eight bolts holding the flywheel on you need the later rod bearings. If only six then the earlier, wider ones.
Marine head gaskets are thin, and I used them to build street engines as they raise compression a bit.
Intake may be the same gasket I can't remember, but inspect the old one and compare. Very long bolts/studs hold the manifolds on as you know.
Depends on your skill level as rebuilding the pump is a lot cheaper than a new one. Not too tricky but it has to be right. Its the diff between 75 and 350 bucks.

Hey peetz
Yes I have the motor out. I have the head at the machine shop, and pistons are out but crank is still in. haven't tore apart the timing chain cover and raw water pump yet just waiting to get the parts I need yet. So when you rebuilt those engines where did you find most of your parts? I seen on rockauto.com I could get most of the parts I need for the internal stuff and the rest at other places, been kind of challenging doing the research and time finding what I need. I will probably have more money in the boat than its worth but I can pile a whole crap load of kids and adults in the old piece of crap. Thanks for you info it has been very helpful. Thanks Donny
