What exhaust are you running? 444-544

Hey to all, I`m wondering which muffler to get. I`m thinking of a glass pack style but don`t want too much noise, just a sporty sound. I will only be running one muffler up front. Engine is a B-20 with a Weber, fueley head, stock cam and a 2 inch double down pipe. Thanks for any help. Larry

My 444 has a B20 with a dual outlet exhaust manifold with the stock two into one exhaust pipe.

I had a local muffler shop make up the rest of the exhaust using no muffler, just a resonator from a Turbo exhaust system mounted crossways behind the fuel tank where the original resonator was.

This was done several years ago. At the time that turbo resonator was suggested by IPD and I used it. I am happy with the sound - a nice purr, louder than stock, but not "too much".

I'll be in this boat soon.

I'm not a fan of glasspacks on anything really, and I think it would be raspy on these motors.

I ran a Magnaflow on my 245 with a highly modified B21FT. Setup was a 3" downpipe > race cat > muffler > side exit. I loved the sound, and even with that setup it never got "too loud" or droney at speed. Also had a Magnaflow on my 3.5L Ecoboost V6 with 4" cat-back, and that had the same overall effect.

Long story long, I'm a huge fan of Magnaflow on these older and think they would sound great on these smaller Volvo motors. You can get them in many different sizes and shapes to fit your needs, too.

I like that idea also but I would like something small in diameter and out of site when viewed from the side of the car. There`s not a lot of space like frame rails to hide the exhaust. The cherry bomb style round muffler looks good under there but is a bit noisy. I might branch off into two exit pipes, one each in front of the rear tires. That`s another reason for milder exhaust notes. Some of the space around the fuel tank had to be used for a 15 gallon jeep CJ fuel tank from Summit Racing. It Looks real nice like factory done. The original rear muffler was deleted to allow for this. I could run another smaller muffler if I run the exhaust out the back. One muffler still sounds best to me. Larry

Check Magnaflow's website for universal applications in the size piping you need. There are longer round ones (like glasspacks) and the standard (muffler shaped) ones. I'm sure you'll find something that can tuck up between the frame rails.
