what is a proper grade of engine oil for this vehicle w10 30 or w10 40?

    Read about oil on bobistheoilguy.com (or other sites).

    A petroleum engineer persuaded me years ago that 10w40 was stretched too far and I haven't used it since. I don't say this is correct, just FYI.

    On the 240 I use 15w40 diesel oil in summer; 10w30 synthetic blend in winter.

    From the owner's manual:



    I use 10W30 because I have no reason not to, such as abnormal oil consumption. However, as you see from the other replies, lots of folks have their own theories.

    Either are fine. Clean is the most important characteristic of engine oil.

    I run 15W40 diesel oil.

      I also run diesel, Delo 15/40, in all my cars for the past 12 years. I never have to clean anything, like the throttle body etc as the oil takes care of that.
