Converting my 1983 242 TI to a manual (m46) 200 1983

So, I'm going to do this. Sadly I had a beautiful 85 245 TI with a manual that was totaled by a careless Lexus driver. Uhh, well I saved everthing from that car and I was going to use that transmission. That car did have the stepped flywheel as well as the redish overdrive relay. I was going to use the flat flywheel as well as wireing from a 84 244ti which ran the blue relay. is there a difference in the transmission that would require me to use the red relay or or the stepped flywheel with the 1985 245 ti transmission? Thanks, Nick.

I daresay there is a wire or two from the automatic OD setup that could be scavenged if you trace it--pull a schematic up in Bentley and see. That said, the OD setup is so simply, you should just wire it up yourself. Go with the earlier OD setup, the later one with the more complex relay is a pain.

Don't forget to insulate the edge of the shifter opening with a slit piece of hose where you cross it with the harness going to the OD switch. Same for the harness going down to the trans. By the way, you can overfill your trans by using the fourth gear switch port!

When we convert cars to manual trans, we use almost exclusively the nine inch clutch with the "dog dish" flywheel. It's smoother and lighter, and the smaller lighter drivers don't complain about it. Not that the 8.5" clutch is terribly heavy, but there is a noticeable difference. 9" is nicer in traffic for sure.

Ive used both the stepped and flat flywheel on the same M46 so that should be no issue.

The Auto OD relay cant be used on the manual or Manual relay for the auto.
They work different. Not sure about the wiring harness for the relay.
