    Blower Motor - Dash Out 200 1992

I have to quit being so lazy and take pictures on my next modified chainsaw
method motor replacement.I have down to an almost elegant procedure where I
replace the venturi with another venturi cut from a donor car ,no loss of capacity whatsoever and so much quicker. On the other hand the resistor is still
    difficult.

My solution about the resistor problem is adding a second unit fixed to the firewall in the engine compartment. I have it bolted solid at say 1 inch minimum from the firewall.

I connect only the firewall resistor segment that matches the one burned in the heater box.

Temporary measure I must agree because the pocelain become hot and nothing flamable must get close.

Here's the driver side way down in the footwell.

        Passenger side.

        Blower fan removed.
Bushings on the fan are worn. Shaft has some play in it.
Passenger side fan blade is broken. Cracked and split where it mounts to the motor shaft.
The nifty metal spring clip thing that holds the blade on is nowhere to be seen.
Need to get another fan blade and clip for that side before it can be put back together.

My neck was bothering me as I got the new resistor placed inside the fan housing. Started to screw in the fan motor, but called it a day.

Headed to the junk yard tomorrow to look for a passenger side fan blade and clip.

hi sages- looks truly hellacious to replace. does the blower have a fan blade on each end of the armature. one of two things happened when this 240 blower motor setup was designed. either the designers forgot the vehicle needed a blower motor until after the design was finished and quickly cobbled up this ridiculous design to get it into production or it was intentionally designed to create make work for shyster dealers who needed profit enhancement. which case do you think was most likely. has anyone here actually hired a dealer to do this job and then been treated for sticker shock(a painful disabling disease). one piece of evidence to consider may be that in the later 740 the blower design was changed and its replacement became a piece of cake(15 minute job i hear). apologies for my bad attitude. oldduke ps most cars have anomalies like this which might suggest it isnt accidental.

Just got back from the junkyard. New passenger side fan blade and spring clip was $8!

                    Lessons learned.
                    1. Thank you Art! Once again your website, photos, and instructions were fantastic.
                    2. Removing the dash makes this job easier.
                    3. What a crummy design by Volvo.
                    4. I labeled all the center console wires and bulbs with masking tape and a sharpie.
                    5. I also bagged all the fasteners in sandwich bags and taped them to the part as they were removed. Worked great. Only 1 torx left over. Haha.
                    6. Having lots of light and a comfy garage helps. Plus music is essential (Led Zeppelin, U2, Avett Brothers, John Mellencamp)!
                    7. Take breaks. Visit Art's web page photos if you get stuck.
                    8. Getting the new resistor pack screwed in was the worst part for me. That screw is the farthest reach in the whole project.
                    9. Take it slow. Take photos if you aren't sure you can remember how it is supposed to go back together.
