Small leaks in new exhaust

I installed 3 Starla cat-back exhaust systems in the past 2 weeks (240, 940, 960) everything went well, but each one had a small leak at one joint that would not stop with tightening of the clamp. The pipes were inserted beyond the slot in the outer pipe, but still leaked a bit. What's the key to getting a good tight joint on a new exhaust?

I always mark the inner pipe with a circle at 1 inch and two circles at two inches - that way, before I tighten everything up I can see how much each pipe is inserted and even things up.

I agree that the volvo circle clamps are the best. I use them on other cars as well.

I have found that the "U-bolt" style clamps don't work well on my Volvos.
I now only use the circle style that was original equipment.

The key to leak free connections is well fitting pipes. If the leak is significant, put on another clamp that is rotated 90 degrees to the first one.

I always drill a small hole in the bottom of the low end of every new muffler that I install. It keeps water from collecting in the muffler and prolongs it's life.
