head interchange 200 1986

Hello, I have an 86 240 with a B230F. I need to replace the head, the you-pull-it has a 85 240 and a 88 740. Can someone please advise me on what heads/years are interchangeable?

Thanks!

pretty much any b230 head will work for you. try and stay away from b230 turbo engine heads. they are different.

go with the 740 head if its a non turbo. make sure to remove the distributor from the back of the head and use your heads plug to block the hole up.

removing the diz is quite simple and easy.

Turbo heads are the same except for the exhaust valves, which will work in an NA. But a T head will have been subject to more heat over its life, so an NA may be a better bet used.

The head is the same BUT the camshaft and exhaust valves, as you stated, are not.

stick to finding a non turbo head for ease of installation

I purchased a 1991 745 (Rex Regina) several years ago to save it from the scrap dealer. It had a bad transmission and a blown head gasket.

The head could not be saved. I had a turbo head/cam assembly from an 88 B230ft that I installed along with a transmission from a twin cam b234.

That must have been about 25,000 miles ago and it continues to be a great running car. While I do not see any advantage to having the turbo head/cam on a NA engine based on my experience I would not hesitate to do it again given the opportunity.

          Randy
