it is NOT like any of pumps pictured or described in either bentleys or Haynes

A '93 should have the same pump as shown in Bentley, p. 640-6. The reservoir isn't shown in that picture.

Can you see the slotted arm with the M6 adjuster? The long skinny screw much like the one at the alternator?

If so loosen the nut on the lower outer bolt. That's the pivot. Loosen the nut for the carriage bolt that rides in the slot.
Adust with the M6 screw. Tighten the previously mentioned nuts.

I was wrong with the last bit of advice. I've been blowing it all over the place here, lately.

The pump shown in Bentley should be what you have (I think). But that one does not have a, "piggy back," reservoir. The reservoir is over close to the fender for that type.

I'm thinking you may have a Saginaw pump but, for the 240, those should have an integral reservoir. And I'm not sure if it would bolt right up to the B230. I see pictures in an old greenbook with a pump that resembles the Saginaw (roughly teardrop shaped) with a seperate reservoir connected to the pump via a sort of S-shaped hose. But I doubt if that would be an easy fit either.

I find myself wondering exactly what pump you are dealing with.

Sorry for the bum steer.

I'm sure he has a late style ZF pump that has a reservoir wrapped around the top of the pump -- that's what was in the '92 I just worked on. I think he may be missing the adjuster rod. BTW--when I first built my VolvOldsmobile V8 I found that the pump (round-not like the later pear shape) just needed to have the fitting from a Volvo/Saginaw screwed into the back of my 1963 pump to be able to use all Volvo hoses. -- Dave

That was a poor supposition on my part.

I've never worked on anything newer than my '89 and just figured they were all like that.

Never assume...

power steering belt adjust 200 1993

I just installed new alternator belts on a client's '92 245 -- the left side of the motor carries the A/C compressor and the P/S pump on top -- both having the 6mm bolt type adjustment (for the p/s pump located at the top between the pump and the motor. The pump had a built in reservoir--and the owners manual for my '93 245 V8 conversion also shows the same (B230 long gone). Could the '93 be different as far as the adjuster goes? Maybe a photo would help explain your problem (not that I know how to do it). -- Dave

How late in production is it? I have seen 240's that were among the last off the line with different PS/AC mounts/adjusters...like from a 700/900 series.

PS Belt adjustment is via shims inserted between the halves of the pulley. Remove the front side of the pulley, insert the # of shims required to set the pulley width and reinstall the pulley face. Spare shims should be stored on the face of the pulley under the bolts that hold the halves together.

hmmm..by what means to split pulley ? i dont see a hex or any other type bolt on there...
By the way, the PS pump has piggyback resevoir..it is NOT like any of pumps pictured or described in either bentleys or Haynes...tho it IS the original one.

I just went out and looked at mine and the AC adjuster is on the right side and down below the Power Steering Pump and the adjuster for the Power Steering Pump is on the left near the pump.

Hope this helps,

Ron J
