ICU question 200 1990

Today I was at the PNP and found a 1989 244, I pulled the ICU and ECU units. The ECU is a white label 951, I am familiar with these. However the ICU is a pink label and has the following PN#s: the Bosch number is 0 227 400 146 and the Volvo number is 3517402 does anyone know if this for an EGR or non EGR car? Tasca and Ebay searches did not shed any light.

The engine compartment looked like my 1990 245 which is a non EGR system, in other words I did not see any extra "plumbing". Any information will, as always be appreciated.

Fred

ANSWER ICU question 200 1990

Hey Fred,

Our 89 245 has the 146 (3517402). It came to us with a 933 (late EGR ECU) so it is a good bet the fuel ECU had the pink label syndrome before we got it. "Pink label" only applies to the ECU as regards the reliability, the ICUs are bulletproof, if you believe what you read here.

I'd have to check my son-in-law's 89 sedan. Have never seen an egr car running EZK, but am aware they exist (seen photos!). Parts fiche says an 89 should have the "3531325 (3517402) W/O E.G.R. or 3501688 E.G.R.."

ICU question 200 1990

its for an egr car.

BUT i seriously doubt it makes any difference if used in a non egr vehicle.

clearly someone has been in there before. the 951 was never used in an 89 and was not even for sale at that time.
