Power Steering Pump ID 700 1990

My 745T steering system is due for a little work. Among other things, the pump is obviously leaking at the shaft. (Apparently the pump is only good for 346,000 miles.) Whether I remove & replace, or rebuild, or buy used from Pull-a-Part and rebuild/swap, I'm not sure which pump I have. What are the identifying features?

A 1990 740 almost certainly has a Saginaw TC pump, a little cylindrical pump with a remote reservoir. If you have the reservoir on the pump itself, then it is a Saginaw P oval version. A rebuild kit is around $30 online but you'll need a press to reassemble the pump. You'll also need a press to install the pulley (or just take to to a machine shop and have them remove/reinstall the pulley). Check the pump bracket before you remove the old one since this tends to wear at the bolt holes and allow the pump to cant, causing the pulley to tilt over. You can easily check it by holding a ruler along the belt and checking alignment. A new bracket (Volvo dealer) is around $20.
