1976 Volvo 240 Wagon Trade for 1990 Volvo 240 Wagon? 200

I just saw this little beauty for sale near me - relatively anyway.

Horrible but this is pre electronics which I would like to have.

You think a trade - if it's in good shape - for my 1990 240 5 speed wagon would be fair?

This is a serious step backwards.Three speed auto not good, kjet was very reliable but at that age any problems will be serious.B21 is no where as smooth
as b230. Gas consumption will be at least 1/3 higher.Much higher chance of corrosion Other than historic plates(your 90 will soon qualify)I don't see
the upside,Your 90 is the perfected version.

Well then I would like to have it for back up because of the pre - electronics - not for any every day ride.

I did not realize it was a 3 speed.

Thanks for the info and the reply.

just so you know--the auto trans in the '76 is not the much derided BW35 as in all earlier Volvos. It would be called a BW55 and later morphed into the o'drive 70 and 71 models. It's a good transmission--unlike the 35 it responds nicely to part throttle downshifts and shifts smoothly. The whole set-up can be upgraded to a later o'drive model as a bolt in mod (with all the related parts). -- Dave

I have a 76 wagon with the 4 speed automatic. It is a bolt in job.Volvo was thinking ahead, the threaded holes are there for the longer transmission.

I would never give up a manual transmission car for an early 240 3 speed automatic.

This car will be sloooooow compared to your current ride.

I love the K-jet 240s, but I will never own another one with an automatic.

3 speed? Did not know that. Interesting.

Well, then I guess I would just like for backup. The point for me was because it was pre - electronics
and would nice to have around.

      Thanks for the reply.
