Tips on Smoging 240 in So California 200

seeking advice here. I have an 81 245 with B21 manual fuel injected. I just got my smog notice and I have to have it tested at a "Star" station. The catalytic converter is really old and I have a rusy exhaust pipe with holes. i have heard that the smog stations are requiring cats with a specific model #/serial # specific to the make/model/year of car. I just had a 96 honda civic smogged and they made a big deal about locating the on board computer wire connection for the code checker. Do '81 245s have the on board compter (OBDC) and where would the port be located/what does it look like? should I get a new cat put on first or try to get it passed and if it fails then get a new one? any other tips for passing the smog test would be appreciated! Thanks in advance.

No OBD on this car so no plug. Just make sure the O2 sensor is working and as you mentioned the exhaust and cat are good. Oh, and the lambda light should come on when the key is first turned on then go out when the engine is started. There is a way to adjust the fuel injection ratio at idle. I use an oscilloscope, but I think a dwell meter can be used for a 50% cycle. Usually even if this is a little off the O2 sensor will compensate. Also don't let the car get cold waiting for the test.

I thought anything prior to 1986 it was an automatic exemption. Did you just buy the car?

If so, there is a limit that can be spent or you can appeal it and get it exempt as well!

      Check in to it.

Besides if the car runs good, as being in good tune, it should pass the limits for that year anyway!

The 96 Honda was a whole different story.
