1992 740 Wagon Power Steering Pump Location / IAC Valve 700 1992

I recently purchased a 1992 740 wagon with 137k. What I believe is the power steering pump is making a faint grinding noise. I checked the fluid level in the reservoir and it was low. Is the power steering pump under the front of the engine. I also have a question about the IAC valve. I have received code 223 which indicates that the IAC valve is faulty. I want to replace it but I don't know if it is a Regina or Bosch model. Can anyone tell me where it is located and maybe which manufacturer. Any and all advice would be very helpful and greatly appreciated.

    Welcome to the Brickboard. Click on the FAQ heading and you will find lots of excellent diagnostic/repair information.

    Power steering pump is mounted low on the passenger side at the front of the engine.

    Regina systems have a square ignition coil, Bosch is cylindrical. The IAC 223 code means that the electrical connector or wiring to the IAC valve has a problem, or the IAC valve itself has an intermittent internal connection.

    My 1993 940 with Regina fuel injection randomly stalled when coasting. Every time it happened the 223 code appeared. I cleaned the electrical connectors on the wire harness and IAC valve - the problem went away.

      Mike91~ Thank you for the information. Can you tell me where the IAC Valve is located on the 1992 740? I also received a code of 132 which I believe has something to do with the battery voltage being to low. The code 231 came up which I believe it has to do with the O2 sensor. I replaced the battery which should have caused the codes to reset, but they have not. I still get the three codes when I do the self test diagnosis. Could all of these issues be related?

        You really need to read the FAQ.

        What makes you think that removing the battery will reset the codes?

        I never had a '92, but I think that you need to reset them at the code box.

          "What makes you think that removing the battery will reset the codes?"

          Maybe he's seen some of Art Benstein's posts on the subject?

          None of the 200/700/900 Fuel nor Ignition controllers have "keep alive" memory. Just pulling the appropriate* fuse will clear OBD codes (easier than battery connections).

          * Underhood 25A Blade fuse for most 240s. Fuse 6 for '92-93 240**.
          Fuse 1 for 700/900.

          ** Some '93 240s have a multi-fuse pack at the Battery + terminal, with which I have no experience.

            Why not just clear the codes via the OBD box as it's made to do?

              If I'm under the hood I usually do, Chris. But in this case I was responding to James Sousa's confrontational and IMO less than helpful: "What makes you think...?" post.
