Existing Michelin 195/75/14 are reaching end of life. Started looking for replacement. Michelin does not even make this size anymore. Same with a number of other brands.

Car is NA 245 with 310K miles. Rust may take it in next few years but it just passed smog with very low numbers.

Firestone/sears/etc offer in house off brands in this size but reviews I have read are usually negative.

Can get Kuhmo (sp?) in this size from tire rack and have installed locally but with shipping/installation price is up there.

Any suggestion for summer or all season tires from board members. Am on California coast and car is not driven in snow.

Any thoughts on going to 195/70/14 for this application. Lots of choices in that size.

Or have you looked into 205/R65/14 they will fit and are only about 3/8 of an inch larger in diameter.

A nice road riding tire and can carry more load which wagons get used for.

A few dollars more but can get you a bit more mileage in tire wear to offset that.

If it's a wagon that should be fine although your speedo might be slightly off. But do you really care with over 300k on the car..:)

If you own a sedan, I suggest 185/70-14"'s. Had them for 11 years on my 90 sedan. Speedo was pretty accurate.

I have also had very good experience with Kumho on my 940 and on my 850t the Hancooks are holding up really well. They handle great on dry roads and provide very good traction in both rain and snow. I will definitely buy them again.

Based on TireRack reviews and price I recommended the Kumho Solus KR21 to a couple of friends. One set showed heavy tread wear in short order and the other showed a sidewall bubble...both at about 2 years and 14000 miles.

The sidewall bubble was "not covered by warranty" and further, the KR 21 is no made and "we can't get them anymore." I'm embarrassed I recommended them to friends who thought I was a knowledgeable car guy.

Just limited experience.

I recommend the Kumho Solus. They are not Michelins, but they are a good economy tire. You might try your local tire dealers instead of Tire Rack. Maybe their prices are better since you don't have to pay for shipping etc. If you want to go real cheap buy the house brand. But.... IMO - the Kumho's are worth the extra money over the house brands.

Agree on the Kumho. Their Solus KR21 is an unexpected gem among economy tires. Highly recommend them.

Khumos (21's or 25's) came on the Hyundai I had to buy to replace the car I lost due to a Sandy tree...

Simple statement - Khumos SUCK! also Hankook's SUCK!

Go buy any decent Dunlop, Conti or Bridgestone if you want a decent road tire. Khumos and Hankooks suck in the raqin, are noisy as hell and have a issue with sidewall bubbles.

They are cheaply made OEM tires .

There's the problem: Your car came equipped with Khumo tires. I've been using Kumho tires on my car, without any issues. Must be different.

Agreed. I had Kumho Solus KR-21's on both my 240 and 850. No problems. Not a performance tire, but a good tire for the money. That is what I believe the OP is looking for. If money isn't an issue I'd recommend Michelin.

You can still get the Michelin Harmony at a 195/70/14, which is just slightly different than your 195/75/14, if this is an option for you.

If you liked the old 185/14 Michelin MX-4 Rainforest, which I thought were great, the Harmony is extremely close in performance and ride as to the MX-4.

After the MX-4 was discontinued, I went through Coopers, Yokies - you name it - they were all awful in performance and ride in comparison to the MX-4. I finally got back to normal with the Harmony series.

Unfortunately, the Harmony series is in the process of being discontinued and I believe the Defender is its replacement.
