240 Fuel Tank 200

My daughters recent wreck has already donated it's alternator and adjustment bracket to my wife's 245 and brand new battery to my other daughters 240 so life goes on.

I have been cannibalizing the car and decided to remove the tank for future use on my extra 92 245. What is the best way to store the tank so I don't get rust forming on the inside, I have drained all the gas and will let it dry thoroughly. Any other steps I should take to preserve the tank?

Thanks
Dan

Be cautious about the battery ... 200

Hi. Regarding the battery that you put into your other daughter's car, be cautious. I'm thinking that, while I don't know the force of the impact that wrecked the donor car, if it was really a serious g-force, the crash may have damaged the internal plates in the battery -- one or more may be cracked or had "lead" flake off (and is therefore defective), and may even cause a internal short down the road.

A good, proper load test may be warranted before you trust the battery to start your daughter's car late some night on her way home.

Speaking as a daughter's father ... me overprotective? Nah!

I have done this with good results; dry the tank by reversing a shop vac through it, pull the sending unit, stick your hand in there--I got my wife to do this with her much smaller hands--and spray the inside with a couple of cans of marine fogging oil. you will still get a minor bit of rust but it can be acid washed and neutralized before putting the tank back in service.
