Main fuel pump wiring ? 200 1987

When my car died I had to have a Ford dealer replace the main fuel pump. In doing the job, they cut off the connectors for the pump and crimped on ring connectors.

Is there a standard replacement connector that will fit the Bosch pump or is a replacement harness the only way to go ? If so, are the harnesses year specific ?

Thanks

Greg

The wiring harness (as removed from an '84 245) is pn 1307605, which supersedes to pn 9139233. It is still available through Volvo for ~$85.

Greg, two of these will restore your harness. Just make the splices inside the car under the back seat. Price is redickerous -- should be 5 cents like Lucy in the MetLife commercial, but these are not commonly available terminals. I like to grab them when at the yards, but haven't grabbed enough.

page from eeuroparts catalog

Local from the Volvo dealer p/n 3523813 or search for better price. Heck if you have decided to replace a running main pump with a Bosch, you got money. Go for the 1307305 connector housing too!

Hi Art,

Thanks for the input as always.

I'm more reluctant to be stuck by the side of the road than to replace a running fuel pump. Last time that happened it cost me $600...

I wouldn't be so skeptical of this pump if it were just consistently buzzing away under the back seat. Instead it has a bit of ...uhhhh-unnnhhh-uhhhh... at times. It is not very comforting when it is -10F and I'm 4 hours from home.

Where did you find the page of electrical connectors ? Do you have a paper eEuroparts catalog ? If I search their website for 1212901 (it looks like what I think the correct connector would be) it comes up empty handed. The 2523813 connector looks like a flat blade connector.

It has finally gotten above zero here so I'll have to go dig my parts car out of the snow and see if the harness is any good.

Yikes, the typos...

Go click on this link I supplied in the previous post as a hotlink:

http://www.eeuroparts.com/Parts/31072/Wire-with-Terminal-3523813/

That's the pigtail, all made up except for the plastic housing that locks it into the pump terminals and keeps the water out.

Problem is, I guess eeuroparts only supplies the pigtail, not the housing which I typed wrong. Should be 1307035 - item 2 in the second drawing page from Volvo's parts list, not eeuroparts.

Now if you want to build the pigtail yourself, you might want to consult the pages on tasca or volvopartswebstore and order a few of each you think will build it, because I cannot supply any prior experience matching these drawings up to the application. You'll see those same parts pages on the suppliers website when you google the part number.
