Issue with brake S90-V90

The issue is when I hold down the brake, then release it lightly, so that not to move the car forward, ( the car is in Drive), I hear and feel a "clunk", somewhere at the front. I installed new control arms with new ball joint, did not fix it. When braking hard to stop quickly, from any speed, there is a grinding sound, until the car stops completely.

Brake pads are one year old, and still thick. Brake rotors are in good shape too. In general, the brake is soft and weak.

Any ideas how to fix this?

    Did you apply the Volvo silicone grease to the pads.

    I found the hard way that not using this grease leads to all kinds of brake problems like rubbing problems, brakes that squeak like a pig.
